Vintage Report
The dry and warm summer days ensured consistent quality. The coolness of the sea and the nocturnal temperature drops contributed to a long growing season.
Babydoll Winery is located in New Zealand and boasts some of the finest vineyards in both Marlborough and Hawke's Bay. The wines are made with great respect for nature, and the winery chooses to focus primarily on sustainable winemaking techniques. The name Babydoll, featuring a small sheep on the label, originated because the winemaker wanted a natural lawnmower for the vineyards. The small sheep can't nibble on the bunches because they are higher than they are. Babydoll only grows to between 45 and 60 cm tall. The small sheep can only eat the grass between the vines, which makes for a unique organic cultivation method.
Babydoll's old Sauvignon Blanc vineyard
Marlborough is a fantastic region where Sauvignon Blanc grapes thrive. The small sheep bring life to the vineyards, and we taste that in the vibrant and refreshing flavors. The dry and warm summer days ensure consistent quality. The coolness comes from the sea, wind, and of course, the nighttime temperatures, which can drop sharply. This contributes to a fantastic and exceptionally long growing season, allowing the Sauvignon Blanc grapes to absorb everything from the rich environment. The soil structure is primarily mineral-based, and we taste that in this white Babydoll Sauvignon Blanc. What does Babydoll Sauvignon Blanc taste like?
All grapes come from vineyards in the Awatere Valley and the Wairau Valley. After harvest, each parcel is fermented separately, after which Babydoll's winemaker bubbles the wine. Well, leave that to Natalie Christensen, because this is a superb wine! As soon as the bottle is opened, we smell the Sauvignon Blanc grape; beautiful nuances of passion fruit and citrus peel. The color is clear with a green shimmer, while the nose is stimulated by notes of grapefruit, passion fruit, and some green herbs like mint. The fresh palate leaves the palate enchanted with abundant freshness from both white and citrus fruits. On the back of the tongue and palate, nuances of lime and fennel complete the whole.Product details
