Fruit & Wood Viognier Grande Reserve, IGP Pays d’Oc
This Viognier lives up to its name, with ripe white fruit and floral charm on a creamy frame, with just enough fresh tension to keep you coming back for more. New to L'adoré's &Wood series and a worthy sparring partner alongside: Butter & Wood Chardonnay Grande Reserve, with the same convincing price-quality for a house wine around ten euros.
Vineyards and region
The Viognier comes from Languedoc Roussillon in Southern France. The abundant sun and cool evening breezes help the grapes ripen fully while maintaining pure aromas. This results in that recognizable mix of peach, apricot, and blossom with enough tension to keep it lively.
Vinification and aging
The bunches are destemmed and depitted. The wine ages for 9 months in stainless steel for pure fruit, while a portion of the cuvée undergoes wood aging for extra depth. What does partial wood aging do for Viognier, and what can you taste from it? The oak adds subtle notes of vanilla and toast, rounds out the texture, and makes the peach-apricot aromas feel more prominent, while the stainless steel keeps the whole crisp and clear. This way, the glass remains expansive and silky, but never heavy.
Grape composition
Viognier 100 percent. Viognier is known for apricot and white peach with a soft mouthfeel and modest acidity, a grape that can elegantly carry wood without becoming clunky when aging is carefully dosed.
Tasting notes and serving tips
On the nose, apricot, white peach, and hawthorn, lifted by vanilla and light toast. The taste is generous and silky, with a fresh tension that provides balance. Serve at 10 to 12 degrees with creamy poultry dishes, fish in sauce, lobster, or aged cheeses. Enjoy now, with a cellaring window of at least 3 years.
About the series
Fruit & Wood Viognier is the latest addition to the &Wood line from L'adoré. We deliberately placed it alongside Butter & Wood Chardonnay because the style and quality align perfectly. This is a delightful house wine with an excellent price-quality balance.
