Flavour profile

Intense ruby red with garnet reflections and a rich nose of red fruit jam, blackcurrant, and cherry marmalade. Cocoa, licorice, and vanilla give the warm, round flavor extra layering, while the velvety tannins ensure a generous mouthfeel. The finish is long, ripe, and pleasantly spicy.

The origin, grapes and craftsmanship behind this wine.

This Riserva is the signature wine with which Conte di Campiano demonstrates the depth and class that Primitivo from Manduria can achieve. South Italian generosity takes on a mature, velvety form here, with the rich personality that has made this cuvée a long-standing favorite among international juries and thousands of wine lovers.

The grapes come from the hills and coastal plains of southern Puglia, within the provinces of Brindisi and Taranto.

  • Location / Origin: Primitivo di Manduria DOC is located on the Salento peninsula, in the southernmost part of Puglia. The combination of plains, low hills, and nearby coastal areas offers plenty of sun and a long period for the grapes to build up ripeness.

  • Soil: The vineyards are mainly situated on clay soil, supplemented by shallow calcareous soils and red, stony ground rich in minerals. Clay retains moisture during dry periods, while lime and stones ensure good drainage.

  • Climate & Influences: Salento is surrounded by the sea, which benefits the vineyards through good ventilation. This constant air movement nicely complements the warm, sunny conditions of southern Puglia.

  • Vineyard & Harvest: The grapes are hand-harvested. Due to early ripening, the harvest usually takes place in August or at the latest by the beginning of September.

Careful extraction and long maturation give this Riserva its deep color, soft tannins, and layered character.

  • Fermentation: After pressing, skin maceration follows to extract color, aroma, and ripe tannins. Fermentation takes place at a controlled temperature in stainless steel tanks, with regular remontage (pump-overs) to ensure even extraction.

  • Aging / Oak maturation: The wine rests and refines for a total of 24 months, of which at least 9 months are spent in wooden barrels. This long maturation polishes the tannins and allows the ripe fruit, spiciness, and warm wood tones to blend harmoniously.

The entire wine is carried by the grape that translates the warm and powerful character of Manduria like no other.

  • 100% Primitivo – Primitivo di Manduria: Primitivo brings concentrated red and dark fruit, a generous body, and ripe, soft tannins. The grape variety thus forms a strong foundation for the long aging and full-bodied Riserva style.
