What a thick, full-bodied, and powerful red wine this Barbaresco Coste Rubin from the Fontanafredda winery is. Barolo, based on the Nebbiolo grape, is probably the most famous wine, but wines from neighboring Barbaresco have also acquired a great reputation. The latter is generally more refined and elegant in style. The grapes are selected from various vineyards in the villages of Treiso, Barbaresco, and Neive. The grapes are grown on beautiful slopes, between 250 and 300 meters above sea level.
The great love Fontanafredda
The Fontanafredda estate, nestled amid the beautiful Langhe hills in the heart of Piedmont, once belonged to King Vittorio Emanuele II of Italy, who gifted it to his great love, Rosa Vercellana, a "common man." A timeless love story—about winemaking, passion, his "Bela Rusin" (as it was popularly known), and a modern-minded entrepreneur who dedicated his life to wine. The villa still bears the name of this great love. To this day, it produces exquisite, high-quality wines.
After harvest, the grapes for this unique Coste Rubin are immediately destemmed and pressed, and fermentation is carried out with selected yeasts. To optimize the extraction of color and tannins, the must is regularly circulated. After maceration, which lasts ten to twelve days, malolactic fermentation follows. Before aging, this wine is first aged for a year in large French oak barrels and then briefly in stainless steel tanks. The aging process is completed by bottle-refining this Barbaresco.
A very elegant, full-bodied, fruity wine from Fontanafredda
Fontanafredda's Coste Rubin Barbaresco DOCG reveals itself in the glass in an intense ruby red with a garnet sheen. The delightful aromas of ripe plums, blueberries, and violets are immediately released upon pouring. These notes are rounded out with delicate nuances of licorice, cinnamon, and tobacco. Very elegant, dense, and full-bodied on the palate. The finish is persistently fruity, more intense, and features very well-structured, firm tannins. A spicy, round Barbaresco!
