Bellingham Chardonnay is a very special white wine from Bellingham. The grapes for this white wine are grown at the foot of the Simonsberg and Helderberg mountains, near the sea. Here, one of the best and most beautiful terroirs in all of South Africa can be found. The grapes grow at an altitude of approximately 200 to 300 meters, allowing them to benefit from a variety of influences.
No less than nine months of wood
The harvest for this Chardonnay grape takes place in early March and is carried out entirely by hand. This allows for a thorough selection of the best bunches for this white wine. After the grapes arrive at the winery, they are pressed as whole bunches. Approximately 60% of these are fermented in oak barrels. This is followed by aging on the lees for nine months, giving this beautiful Bellingham Chardonnay its distinctive character.
Bold flavors for the Bellingham Chardonnay
The color of this white wine is lighter than we expected. Pale golden yellow with a light green sparkle. The aroma, however, is truly Chardonnay! The delicious vanilla notes from the oak aging combined with the aromas of tropical fruit and some ripe yellow fruit are a true feast! The taste is wonderfully full and creamy. Despite there being so many Chardonnay wines, Niet, the winemaker, still manages to create a very unique wine. The white wine "tears" beautifully in the glass. The nuances of the tropical fruit combined with the vanilla from the oak aging make this wine truly beautiful. We noted it as full, thick, and characteristic!
