The Franzia family, originally from Italy, founded this fantastic Crane Lake winery in California in 1973. Their goal was to produce excellent wines at incredible prices. Well, they've certainly succeeded, and we're thrilled to be able to sell these top wines in the Netherlands. But according to the Franzia family, it's not all easy; the utmost precision is required to obtain the purest juice. Crane Lake's motto is "accessible wines for the American table." And we completely agree!
The harvest of the Cabernet Sauvignon
Both the Cabernet Sauvignon and the Ruby Cabernet come from various vineyards in California. Crane Lake does this to achieve diversity in its wines, and they've certainly succeeded. The climate plays a significant role in the Cabernet harvest; the warm afternoons and long summers give the grapes sufficient strength. To ensure a smooth ripening season, the grapes also need coolness, provided by the wind and nighttime temperatures. With a rich soil structure and old vines, the harvest is truly phenomenal. Early in the morning, once the grapes have reached full ripeness, they are harvested. A strict selection follows, as only the finest bunches are bottled. The juice is a true gift, full-bodied and powerful.
The aroma and taste of the Crane Lake Cabernet Sauvignon
This Cabernet Sauvignon is a blend of grapes sourced from all over California. Traditionally for red wine, it's fermented at a relatively high temperature for maximum extraction and flavors. Well, this Crane Lake Cabernet Sauvignon certainly succeeded! The aroma is typical Cabernet Sauvignon, with blackberry fruit and hints of coffee and cocoa. The flavor is quite powerful, yet quite smooth and rounded, with berry fruit and soft tannins. The finish is medium-long.
