About the wine and vinification
This Barolo comes from the village of Serralunga d'Alba and is made from 100% Nebbiolo. The soil consists of approximately 25% sand, 52% loam, and 23% clay, mostly on south-facing slopes. Fermentation takes place under controlled temperatures for approximately 20 days. It is aged for 24 months in large wooden barrels, followed by 12 months of bottle maturation before release.
About the winery
Damilano is considered a historic Barolo house with roots stretching back to 1890, when Giuseppe Borgogno established his business in Barolo. Later, his son-in-law, Giacomo Damilano, gave the winery his name. Today, the family manages a range of Barolos from villages and crus, with Serralunga distinguished by its strength and depth.
Volume 2020
2020 is exceptionally strong for Barolo, with wines displaying abundant energy and precision. The structure is still distinctly youthful, with firm, yet unrounded tannins and a slow maturation rate. This makes this Serralunga ideal for cellaring, while decanting now will add further layering and length.
Wine and food advice
Powerful, slow-cooked dishes complement Serralunga's robust profile beautifully. Think game or beef and veal stew, mushroom and truffle dishes, or rich pasta dishes like lasagna.
