Description
The king of the Rhône, this Delas Condrieu La Galopine, is so refined and perfectly balanced. La Galopine is a blend of four plots: Vérin, Saint-Cyr-sur-Rhône, and Chavanay. Average production is 13,000 bottles, and they sell out every year! Not surprising, considering how delicious this wine is, a truly top-class Condrieu.
The vineyard has often been a victim of history, nearly disappearing several times during barbarian invasions, during the days of the "Grandes Compagnies" (in the 17th and 18th centuries), and, more recently, at the end of the 19th century, with the phylloxera infestation. The climate here is continental, hot and dry in the summer, but with regular rainfall in the other seasons.
Fully manual harvest for Condrieu La Galopine
After hand-picking, the grapes are transported in small boxes to the winery. Gentle pressing produces a must that is fermented at low temperatures of sixteen to eighteen degrees Celsius in temperature-controlled vats to optimally utilize the complex aromas of the Viognier varietal. Each year, a variable portion of the grapes (max. 20%) is fermented in new oak barrels. Immediately after malolactic fermentation, the wine is pickled and then aged on fine lees to enhance its rich structure while preserving the exceptional varietal aromas.
