Excelsior Chardonnay

This Chardonnay is one of Excelsior's top wines. The price-quality ratio of this white wine is perfect. Excelsior's vineyards are all located in the Robertson region, a region that 150 years ago was an arid plain. However, Jacobus de Wet saw potential in this land, and his hunch was right! Today, it's one of South Africa's most beautiful green spaces, with exceptionally fertile soil. And that results, among other things, in this tropical Chardonnay.

Excelsior is a family business

In 1859, Jacobus de Wet wanted to transform the aforementioned arid plain into a green oasis for his horse breeding farm. Besides his passion for horses, he also had a huge passion for wine. This is why he also planted grapevines, which were fertilized with manure from his own horses. Now, five generations later, the estate produces only wines, and with great success! What beautiful wines the de Wet family makes! The Chardonnay grapes are grown in chalky soil. This creates a harmonious interplay with the Chardonnay grapes, which combine strength with beautiful mineral notes. Harvesting is carried out entirely by hand, ensuring a rigorous selection process. Only the finest fruit is good enough for the De Wet family. What makes this wine even more special is that a portion, 25 percent, was aged in new French oak barrels. This creates even more power and depth in the wine.

What does the Excelsior Chardonnay taste like?

This Chardonnay has a beautiful golden yellow color, which already suggests it's a lovely, full-bodied wine. The aroma reveals delightful aromas of tropical fruits like peach and papaya, vanilla, oak, and yellow cream. The palate is mildly dry, ripe, and rounded with abundant tropical fruit nuances, complemented by notes of yellow cream, vanilla, and ripe peaches. The finish is full and rounded with the delightful "oily" undertone of Chardonnay. An absolute must for any Chardonnay drinker!
