What a beautiful wine made from the finest grapes from the beautiful Tuscan wine region! This young cuvée blends the most important Tuscan grape varieties with international varietals. Sangiovese is dominant at 50 percent, plus 30 percent Syrah, 10 percent Cabernet Sauvignon, and finally 10 percent Cabernet Franc.
The eyes of Tuscany
The name of this wine comes from two farms atop two hills, considered the pupils watching over Pereta, a medieval village. The Fattoria Le Pupille winery is considered a true pioneer in southern Tuscany. Anyone who hears the name of this winery will immediately think of red wines. Sangiovese, or the king of this estate, occupies a whopping seventy percent of the vineyards. Today, the winery owns 75 hectares of vineyards, spread across the beautiful Maremma regions. The soil varies from clay and iron-rich to gravelly.
The grapes are grown in all the vineyards of the Fattoria Le Pupille winery, and the harvest takes place in September and October, depending on the varying degrees of ripeness. After harvesting, the grapes macerate with the skins for fifteen days. Fermentation and aging take place for five months in stainless steel tanks at a controlled temperature. A total of 60,000 bottles are filled. The first vintage of this wine was 2006.
The smell and taste of Fattoria Le Pupille Pelofino
The Pelofino displays a ruby-red color with garnet reflections in the glass. On the nose, aromas of red berries intersperse with balsamic notes. Fruity, round, and harmonious, this young Tuscan red wine delights with soft, melting tannins and a good structure, and the finish is fresh and balanced. We recommend this fruity and refreshing cuvée with vegetable-based appetizers, cured meats, pasta with simple sauces, or pizza.
