The wide range of Kleine Zalze

The German Nicholas Cleef founded the De Zalze winery in 1683. At that time, he is said to have planted around 7,000 vines. Several owners have been at the helm of this successful winery. Kobus Basson and Rolf Schulz have owned De Zalze since 1996 and have built a new family tradition of winemaking from day one. The wines regularly win awards, and with good reason. There's a fantastic wine for every wine lover in the selection. In addition to the typical South African reds of Shiraz, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Merlot, Kleine Zalze also offers excellent white wines from Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay, and Chenin Blanc. The grapes in Stellenbosch benefit from an excellent climate. They enjoy plenty of sunshine during the day, but also benefit from the cool sea breeze. These temperature fluctuations increase the acidity in the wine and enhance the quality of the Chardonnay grape. The Chardonnay is planted in chalky soils, which gives it a lovely fruity character. The Pinot Noir, in turn, provides a refreshing acidity.

Manual harvest for Kleine Zalze Brut

The grapes are harvested by hand in the early morning. By pressing the entire bunch, only the free-run juice is used and vinified separately in stainless steel tanks. Finally, the wine matures for an impressive 10 months on the lees in the Kleine Zalze cellars. A traditional sparkling wine that displays elegance and complexity with a long finish. Aromas of strawberries and black fruit are complemented by the classic richness of freshly baked biscuits. A lively, fine mousse transforms this Kleine Zalze Brut into an unforgettable sparkling sensation.
