Crianza Almansa DO 'Marius' – Powerful Crianza with character and suppleness

The Marius Crianza from Bodegas Piqueras is a full-bodied, spicy red wine from Almansa. Made from a blend of Monastrell, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Tempranillo, this wine offers ripe fruit, warm spices, and an elegant oak structure. The grapes are sourced from high-altitude plots with poor, chalky soils and are processed using modern techniques and a keen eye for the balance between power and finesse.

Vineyards and region: Almansa DO, 700–800 meters altitude

The grapes come from vines between 20 and 40 years old, grown at an altitude of 700 to 800 meters in dry, calcareous soils with minimal rainfall. The vineyards are organically managed, with vines in both traditional bush vines ( Are you thinking: huh, bush vines? We'll explain it here. ) and trained rows. This terroir ensures low yields and intense aromatic expression.

Vinification and maturation: fruit preservation and finesse

Harvest begins in late September. The grapes undergo a short maceration of 4–5 days, with the temperature gradually rising to 25°C. This process helps preserve the fruit and soften the tannins. Fermentation takes place at a low temperature and lasts approximately 15 days. The wine is then aged for six months in 300-liter barrels of medium-toasted American oak .

The wine has a deep ruby ​​red color. The nose reveals aromas of plums, raisins, black pepper, leather, and cherry and cassis jam . On the palate, it is powerful, sultry, and rich, with juicy fruit, spice, and a long, warm finish. The structure is firm yet accessible thanks to the good acidity and silky tannins.
