Description
Mooiplaas wines are known for their excellent quality, accessibility, and attractive pricing. Thanks to the unique microclimates of their vineyards and the Roos family's years of expertise, Mooiplaas has created an impressive range of South African wines. A notable example is their red wine, which has acquired a distinctive flavor through extensive oak aging.
The Legacy of Mooiplaas
Nestled in the picturesque Bottlary Hills and founded in 1704, Mooiplaas is now managed by brothers Tielman and Louis Roos. They combine a respect for nature with their passion for wine. As pioneers in sustainability, Mooiplaas was the first winery to participate in the Western Cape Biodiversity Program. Their "biodiversity walk" offers panoramic sea views, enriched by the cooling sea breeze. While Tielman focuses on the vineyards, Louis concentrates on winemaking, producing wines in the classic Bordeaux style, with distinctive notes of mint, white pepper, or eucalyptus. The Maturation of the Classic Cabernet Sauvignon
After harvest, the grapes undergo seven days of fermentation in closed vats at temperatures between 20 and 25 degrees Celsius. Regular pumping over produces a rich fruitiness. After pressing and fermentation, the wine is aged for 24 months in French oak barrels. The result is a wine with a deep red color and aromas of cloves and pencil shavings, indicating a classic wine for ageing. With its firm tannins, this wine is ideal for aging for up to 10 years, softening over time.Product details
