The Miracle on the Motorcycle
This wine is also part of the Nederburg Heroes series, which releases a series of wines honoring personalities who have made their mark on South African winemaking. The Motorcycle Marvel, loosely translated as "Wonder on the Motorcycle," is a tribute to Günter Brözel, who was cellar master at Nederburg from 1956 to 1989. He played a leading role in building Nederburg's reputation as the most awarded winery in South Africa. He was known for his high quality standards. On his 250cc BSA motorcycle, he would tour the vineyards to ensure everything was going according to plan. In 1985, he became the first South African Winemaker of the Year. The Motorcycle Marvel is a tribute to this icon.
24 months of maturation for The Motorcycle Marvel
The grapes are harvested by hand and then manually selected. Fermentation then follows in open vats. Even after fermentation, the young wine remains in contact with the grape skins for some time. The wine then matures for 24 months in 300-liter French and Romanian oak barrels. The decision was made not to age the wine in new oak, as this would have overly emphasized the wine's color and finesse.
The Nederburg Motorcycle Marvel shines in the glass in an intense dark red. From the very first moment, this red wine impresses with its complexity, as the aromas range from berries and dates to sweet spices. A hint of pepper and tobacco leaves successfully round out the bouquet. The full-bodied blend is rich and intense on the palate. The fruit and oak notes are harmoniously balanced and interspersed with subtle herbal nuances and silky tannins. The Nederburg Motorcycle is a wonderful accompaniment to grilled meat, well-seasoned chicken, or pasta.
