Vintage Report

The 2022 vintage in the Northern Rhône achieved a Parker score of 83-85 points. This vintage is rated as above average, is relatively early drinking and very approachable.
This Crozes Harmitage L'Orientale is a wine made entirely of Syrah, produced by the Rhône winery Ogier Caves des Papes. The Crozes Hermitage wine region is located in the northern part of the valley, where the soil consists of glacial fluvial soil with elements from meltwater rivers, such as sand and gravel.

Quality wines from the Rhône region

The winery's origins date back to 1859. However, it wasn't until 1948 that the Rhône Valley began cultivating wine in various vineyards. Ogier's cellars date back to the twentieth century and are located in the world-famous wine village of Châteauneuf-du-Pape. They are undoubtedly the oldest cellars in the southern Rhône Valley. The winery's magnificent buildings are built in the Roman style. Few wine regions in the world boast such a long and illustrious history as that of France's Rhône Valley. Wines have been produced in this region for over two thousand years, benefiting from its excellent, mineral-rich soils and varied climate, which allows for the growth of a wide range of grape varieties. The Rhône Valley is associated with elegant, flavorful wines and specific grape varieties, such as Viognier and Syrah, which are adept at expressing the finer characteristics of their terroir.

Completely hand-harvested for the Crozes Hermitage L'Orientale

The grapes are harvested by hand, followed by traditional vinification with complete destemming. By completely destemming the grapes before vinification, harsh tannins are eliminated. Maceration at high temperatures follows. Finally, the Crozes Hermitage Les Paillanches is aged for approximately six months in large oak barrels. This L'Orientale from the Ogier winery transforms deep red in the glass, immediately releasing pleasant aromas. We detect aromas of raspberry, blackcurrant, and hints of spice and leather. This red wine has a full body and is beautifully balanced with silky tannins. It has a long finish. The wine can be aged for another four to five years.
