Pago de Cirsus has quickly become a class apart. While the winery has only been operating since 2000, it has built a reputation over the past twenty years. Owner Inaki Nunez purchased the land in the southern tip of Navarra with the goal of producing affordable and effective wines. He planted grape varieties such as Chardonnay, Tempranillo, Syrah, Garnacha, and Merlot. This choice of vineyards proved successful, as the climate at a remarkable altitude of four hundred meters provided the perfect environment. The warm summers and cool nights contribute to a calm and balanced growing season, which we taste in this Chardonnay from Pago de Cirsus, among others.
Lots of rainfall in the winter period
The summers are long and very hot, causing the vine roots to eagerly search for moisture. Fortunately, the soil is saturated with it, as the vineyards receive a great deal of rain during the winter months from November to April. This creates a wealth of water in the soil, which the plants can easily absorb during the growing season. Pago de Cirsus now has a total of 136 hectares of vineyards, harvested under the guidance of renowned winemaker Jean Marc Sauboua. Winemaker Jean Marc Sauboua has a long track record, having worked for many years at Château Haut Brion in Bordeaux. This is no ordinary winery, but one that competes in the very top tier. It's therefore no wonder that Pago de Cirsus wines shine like no other and are highly regarded by the international wine press. This Pago de Cirsus Chardonnay has also received numerous awards, including a 92-point rating.
