Description
Saint Clair bottles unique cuvées under the Block label. Each variety has its own unique characteristics. For example, this Block 6, or Oh!, is a tropical wine with grassy notes. Saint Clair has fourteen vineyards in various locations, allowing them to maximize the microclimatic conditions in the wines. The winery was founded in 1978 by Neil and Judy Ibbotson, who remain at the helm today. The winery is represented in the Rapaura, Awatere, Omaka, and Hawke's Bay subregions. Led by winemaker Hamish Clark, the team works with a wide range of grape varieties.
A slow ripening process for the Sauvignon Blanc grapes
This vineyard is located east of the township of Blenheim, close to the sea, in the heart of the Marlborough Valley. It's slightly cooler here than most Marlborough Valley vineyards, giving the grapes a slower, longer ripening time. This wine is named after Peter and Kath Campbell, owners of the vineyard where the grapes for this intense and focused Saint Clair wine are produced. The Harvest of the Block 6 Oh!
The Sauvignon Blanc grapes come from a single vineyard owned by Peter and Kath Campbell, nestled in the fertile, relatively dry soils of the lower Wairau Valley. The young age of these vines and the exceptionally healthy canopy have resulted in intense herbaceous notes. The vineyard's location also contributes tropical and peppery characteristics and a high level of flavor intensity. The Sauvignon Blanc grapes are carefully monitored during ripening and harvested in the cool of the evening, maximizing flavor and a soft, fresh ripeness. An intense and concentrated Sauvignon Blanc from Saint Clair
On the nose, this Saint Clair Pioneer Block 6 Oh! Sauvignon Blanc reveals powerful and intense aromas of sliced green vegetables and abundant gooseberries, with hints of blackcurrant and passion fruit. This is an intense and concentrated Sauvignon Blanc with powerful herbaceous notes on the palate. The palate is intensely focused and refreshing with a long, lingering finish.Product details
