The Schiavenza winery

Schiavenza has been located in Serralunga d'Alba, a village known for its powerful Barolo wines, since 1956. The estate is run by brothers Luciano and Walter Rapetti, who remain faithful to the traditional style of the region. The name Schiavenza refers to the farmers who once worked the land in exchange for a share of the harvest, a nod to the estate's history.

Grape and vinification

The wine is made from 100% Nebbiolo , the grape that gives Barolo its famous power and elegance. The grapes are hand-harvested and fermented in cement using only indigenous yeasts. After fermentation, the wine is aged for 24 months in large Slavonian oak botti (Want to know what a botti is? Then check out our blog about Barrique ), ensuring the pure expression of the grape and terroir remains as central as possible.

The grapes come from vineyards in various crus (Bricco Voghera, Cerrati, and Meriame ) in the comune (municipality) of Serralunga d'Alba in Barolo. The vineyards are situated at 300-400 meters above sea level and face southeast and west. The soils consist of limestone and tuff.

Character and structure

Barolo from Serralunga is known for its power and structure, and this vintage is certainly no exception. The firm tannins and full body create a wine that will develop even more complexity with age. This is a Barolo built on tradition and longevity.

2021 vintage in Barolo

The 2021 Barolo harvest is considered an exceptionally good vintage . The wines have a powerful tannic structure and are developing slowly. For Schiavenza, this means a Barolo that already shows its intensity, but will continue to refine and deepen in the coming years.
