The Sonhoek series certainly lives up to its name! These wines originate from a very sunny area. It's no wonder we've carried them in our collection for years. This series is also a popular house wine in hospitality settings. Many restaurants and bars serve this wine with the finest dishes. This Sonhoek Shiraz Pinotage is definitely recommended for dishes with red meat or pasta with red sauce.

The vineyards for this South African red wine

For this Sonhoek Shiraz Pinotage, we travel to the Western Cape in South Africa. Here we find the beautiful vineyards for Shiraz and Pinotage. The old vines have an average age of 25 years, allowing them to produce magnificent, full, and powerful bunches. The plants are planted in such a way that they optimally absorb the sun's rays and warmth, but also benefit from the pleasant breeze from the sea. This cooling is essential, otherwise the grapes would ripen too quickly. After numerous inspections in the vineyards, the winemaker finally approves the harvest in February. The grapes are harvested at night, according to the varietal, so that the skins are better protected against any bruising during transport. Once the grapes are harvested and pressed, vinification and blending take place.
