The beautiful properties of Spier Estate

Spier Estate traces its origins back to 1692, during the Cape Colony. During this time, the original estate was founded by German colonist Arnout Janz. He saw enormous potential for grape cultivation on this land. This vision proved to be a resounding success. The Spier cellar, built in 1767, is one of the oldest existing cellars in South Africa. These cellars are still in use today. The estate boasts many old buildings, some dating back to the early days. There are 21 buildings in total, each with a different facade. The flagship series, 21 Gables, is based on this.

What does the Spier Discover Collection Rose taste like?

The Pinotage grapes for this delicious South African rosé are harvested by hand. Harvesting takes place early in the morning to preserve their freshness. The grapes are then transported in small crates to the winery, where they are pressed. Maturation takes place on the lees for two months before the wine is bottled. The soil on which the vines are planted is an old riverbed. This makes the soil very fertile and rich in granite, perfect for Pinotage grapes. The vines are between 14 and 19 years old, giving them a wealth of character. This is clearly evident in the taste. What a magnificent rosé!
