The Bernard Bush Vine Pinotage Bellingham is one of our favorites from the "Bernard" series. This series takes its name from Bernard Podlashuk, Bellingham's founder and former winemaker. Bernard knew how to handle the grapes like no other and persevered until the wines were truly perfect. The Bush Vine Pinotage is a prime example.
12 months of wood in the Bellingham cellars
The Bernard Bush Vine Pinotage is made from 100% Pinotage grapes. All grapes come from Bush Vine plants, or untrained grapevines ( want to know more about bush vines? Read our blog ). The harvest for this delicious red wine is done entirely by hand under the watchful eye of winemaker Niel Groennewalt. This beautiful selection of grapes is pressed and then fermented in open wooden barrels. The caps are broken daily to ensure the wine develops a beautiful color and becomes wonderfully full-bodied. After fermentation, the wine is further aged in French oak barrels for 12 months. 50% of the barrels are even new French oak!
What a beautiful taste this The Bernard Bush Vine Pinotage
After this information, we can hardly wait to pour and taste the wine. The deep purple color is immediately noticeable upon pouring. Wonderful aromas of raspberry, plum, chocolate, coffee, and cedar fill the glass. After being completely swept away by the aroma, we can finally taste it! What a truly outstanding wine. Beautiful nuances of black fruit interspersed with a delicate bitterness of chocolate and oak. On the back of the tongue, we detected a hint of pepper and vanilla. The finish contains soft tannins and is wonderfully sultry. Give us another glass!
