The Bernard Small Barrel SMV Bellingham is a special blend from the "Bernard" series. This series takes its name from Bernard Podlashuk, Bellingham's founder and former winemaker. Bernard knew better than anyone how to handle the grapes and persevered until the wines were truly perfect. He would therefore be incredibly proud of this classic blend.
Small Barrel SMV
The Bernard Small Barrel SMV is made from 85% Syrah, 12% Mourvedre, and 3% Viognier. Yes, you read that right: 3% is made from a white grape. A classic example of this blend is the Cote-Rotie from the Rhone. The addition of this white grape creates a perfect balance within the wine. After pressing, the grapes are fermented traditionally, after which the wine is aged in a small barrel for 14 months.
The Bernard 14 months in wood in the Bellingham cellars
The result of 14 months of aging in a "Small Barrel" is certainly impressive! What a wonderfully full-bodied and classic wine. The color is deep dark red, almost black. The aroma is simply breathtaking. Perfect aromas of black fruit, toasted oak, vanilla, and a hint of pepper. The taste is a true sensation. Wonderfully full and complex with beautiful nuances of black fruit, chocolate, vanilla, and a light spiciness. Please note: this wine is only available in limited quantities.
