The vinification process of Val Joanis Viognier Reserve

In the mountainous Luberon region, Château Val Joanis boasts beautiful vineyards. The vineyards are situated on clayey limestone, which gives the wines a unique character. The grapes enjoy warm days and cool nights, which is very beneficial for the aging process. This gives this red wine a powerful, elegant character with abundant fruit. It's often questioned whether Luberon belongs to the Rhône or Provence. It's located 20 kilometers north of Aix-en-Provence, but the area officially belongs to the southern Rhône. Either way, you can expect influences from both. Made from 100 percent Viognier. When the grapes are fully ripe, they are carefully harvested and brought to the winery. Before pressing, the grapes are macerated to further develop their flavors. Fermentation then takes place in stainless steel tanks at a controlled temperature. Finally, the wine is aged on the lees for 8 to 10 weeks, giving it a complex character.

The result is impressive. A light yellow wine with golden reflections. The aroma is delightfully tropical, with floral notes and ripe fruit like nectarine, mango, and apricot.
