Soft, round, ripe, and fruity—these are the key words for this red Merlot from Ventisquero. The Merlot grapes are grown in Chile's largest wine region, the Central Valley. Here, the Merlot grapes receive ample sunshine and therefore ripen exceptionally well. This wine is a blend of 85 percent Merlot and 15 percent Syrah.
The ambitious Ventisquero project
There are two types of wineries in Chile: those that have been involved in viticulture for decades, and the new, recently established generation. Vina Ventisquero falls into the latter category. Viña Ventisquero began as an ambitious project by Gonzalo Vial. The winery was built in the Maipo Valley, and the first vineyards were planted around it, soon followed by vineyards in the Casablanca Valley and Apalta Valley. Ventisquero produces wine using the latest techniques and state-of-the-art equipment.
They operate in an environmentally friendly manner, for example, by significantly limiting water use, offsetting CO2 emissions from transport, and preserving the natural environment as much as possible during new plantings. This ultimately led to "Sustainable Wine of Chile" certification for all vineyards. Ventisquero is the first Chilean winery to achieve this. The grape harvest is also meticulously handled. After harvesting, the grapes are rigorously selected and then destemmed. Only the finest juice is good enough, thus ensuring the winery's high quality.
What does Ventisquero Clasico Merlot taste like?
This is evident in the aroma and taste, with hints of cherries and ripe plums. The palate of this Ventisquero Clasico Merlot is soft, with a lovely fruity bouquet of blackberries, cherries, and plums, and a very smooth finish. A wine for everyone, perfect for drinks, evening wine, and barbecues.
