With Paul Boutinot at the helm of Waterkloof Winery, we know all is well with this wine. This renowned winemaker arrived in South Africa at the beginning of this century. Somerset West, a neighboring municipality of Cape Town, became his permanent base. Here, he spent nearly twenty years working on a state-of-the-art yet self-sufficient wine farm where quality goes hand in hand with contemporary climate ambitions.
The wines of Waterkloof
The name Waterkloof is based on the winery's unique location. The grapes grow at an altitude of no less than 300 meters and are just three kilometers from the ocean. A stroll through the vineyard offers a fabulous view. However, the location isn't just aesthetically pleasing: the ocean clearly influences the vineyards thanks to the almost constant breeze, which ensures a balanced growth process. The temperature difference between day and night ensures that the Chenin Blanc grapes become full and firm. Incidentally, Paul Boutinot's choice of Chenin Blanc is no coincidence. This grape, originally from the Loire Valley, has become an excellent ambassador for South African wines over the past century.

What's remarkable is that Chenin Blanc manages to create the same delicate heart as it did in the French vineyards of old. Especially, as in the case of Waterkloof Chenin Blanc, it produces spectacular wines in vineyards close to the ocean. The refined bouquet of Waterkloof Chenin Blanc is almost historic: soft quince, white peach, and a hint of fresh apple. The purity of both the aroma and the palate is striking. Ripe apricots, sultry honey, and fennel complete the Waterkloof Chenin Blanc's celebration.
