Vintage Report

The 2017 vintage for Barolo in Piedmont achieved an excellent score of 92 points. Wines from this year are currently still a bit youthful and tannic, indicating excellent aging potential.
This Barolo Monvigliero is Bel Colle's flagship wine, unique in its kind and truly exceptional for this price. Bel Colle uses grapes from the finest vineyards in Verduno, unique fields situated at an altitude of two to three hundred meters above sea level. These vineyards are considered the Grand Cru of Verduno; old vines, averaging 25 to 30 years old, produce full, powerful grapes. For this Barolo Monvigliero, only the finest bunches are used, harvested by hand. This ensures a characteristic Barolo.

Unique conditions and compositions for the Barolo wines

On the Langhe hills, the varying microclimates, soil types, and altitudes create a diverse range of grape varieties. These aspects positively influence the Nebbiolo grape and, consequently, Barolo wines. Here, the Bel Colle winery excels at adapting to these conditions and blending their unique blends into the bottle. Founded in 1976 by the Pontignone brothers and Mr. Giuseppe Priola, the company's concept was to produce quality wines that respected local customs. This became a reality when they partnered with oenologist Paolo Torchio, who managed the winery from 1980 to 2015. Since 2015, it has been owned by the Bosio family, who have updated their cellar technologies while maintaining tradition.

The aroma and taste of Bel Colle Barolo Monvigliero

The grapes for each wine are rigorously selected. After the Nebbiolo grapes are hand-harvested, they are carefully inspected and selected. The grapes are then destemmed and pressed. This is followed by a 15-day cold maceration. The juice is fermented in stainless steel tanks and matures for an impressive three years in French oak barrels. And as if that weren't enough, the wine also spends a short time aging in the bottle. After this period, we can enjoy a top-notch Barolo with aromas of violets, spices, vanilla, light red fruit, and some floral nuances. The palate is full and powerful, with all the beautiful characteristics of a top Barolo.
