How this wine tastes

Explore the flavour profile, food pairings and tips for serving and cellaring.

Flavour profile

Bright and light in the glass, with aromas of citrus zest, green apple, white peach, apricot, meadow herbs, herbal tea, and a stony minerality. The taste is juicy, taut, and refined, with vibrant acidity, clear fruit, and a subtle sweetness that remains beautifully balanced. The finish is fresh, herbal, mineral, and remarkably long for a non-alcoholic Riesling.

The origin, grapes and craftsmanship behind this wine.

Kolonne Null Johannisberg Riesling Gelblack is a premium non-alcoholic Riesling from the Rheingau, created in collaboration with Schloss Johannisberg. This is special, as Schloss Johannisberg is considered the oldest Riesling estate in the world. This Gelblack translates the classic, mineral Riesling style into a non-alcoholic version: citrus zest, green apple, white peach, herbs, and a taut, salty freshness.

Gelblack is the result of the collaboration between Kolonne Null and Schloss Johannisberg.

Origin: The Riesling comes from the Rheingau, one of the most famous German regions for Riesling.

Collaboration: Schloss Johannisberg brings centuries of Riesling experience, while Kolonne Null specializes in high-quality non-alcoholic wine.

Soil: Official product information mentions loess and slate soils. These align with the mineral, precise style of this non-alcoholic Riesling.

Style: Gelblack is fresh, taut, and purist, with citrus, apple, peach, fine herbs, and a distinct mineral edge.

This wine is first crafted as a Riesling and subsequently carefully dealcoholized.

Base wine: The base is Riesling from Germany, made to preserve freshness, acidity, and aromatic clarity.

Dealcoholization: The alcohol is removed using a combination of membrane technology and vacuum distillation. This two-step method is intended to best preserve aroma, structure, and balance.

Balance: Thanks to vibrant acidity, fine fruitiness, and a slight hint of sweetness, the wine remains taut and refreshing rather than flat.

Nutritional value: At 20 kcal per 100 ml, Gelblack is low in calories for a non-alcoholic wine. The wine is also gluten-free.

This non-alcoholic white wine is made from Riesling.

Riesling – Rheingau: Riesling gives Gelblack its citrus zest, green apple, white peach, herbal notes, and mineral tension. It is precisely because of the natural acidity of Riesling that this non-alcoholic wine remains vibrant and precise.

93 points, Falstaff (2026): A remarkably high score in the non-alcoholic category. Falstaff praises the clear Riesling recognizability, green apple, white peach, apricot, herbs, mineral notes, juicy taste, integrated acidity, and elegant finish.

More about Schloss Johannisberg

Kolonne Null is a Berlin-based specialist in non-alcoholic wine and works with wineries to translate existing wine styles into non-alcoholic versions as convincingly as possible. For Gelblack, this is done together with Schloss Johannisberg, a historic Riesling estate from the Rheingau. As such, this is not a generic non-alcoholic white wine, but a deliberate interpretation of a classic German Riesling style: fresh, mineral, precise, and gastronomically versatile.
