Vintage Report
The 2023 vintage in South Africa achieved 90 points, indicating excellent quality. The wines are currently still somewhat youthful and tannic, meaning they will slowly but beautifully develop further.
Alvi's Drift Pinotage has always been a specialty since its first bottling in 2006. Every effort is made to maximize the flavor experience characteristic of the grape, and this Pinotage is no exception.
International appreciation for Alvi's Drift wines
Alvi is an abbreviation of Albertus Viljoen, the official first name of the owner of the South African winery Alvi's Drift in Worcester. He is generally called Alvi, hence the name. Today, the third generation is at the helm, but it all began in 1928. They have a total of 420 hectares planted with grapes. The vineyards are located in the heart of the Breede River Valley in the Worcester district, where they cultivate nineteen grape varieties. Together with their highly dedicated team of winemakers, Alvi produces exquisite wines that have since received international acclaim. Sustainability is central to Alvi. The vineyards are carefully managed to optimize and guarantee quality. All grapes are harvested by hand to ensure that only healthy, ripe grapes are used in production.Eight months of maturation for Alvi's Drift Pinotage
The grapes are first crushed. Immediately after crushing, the juice is drained to enhance the wine's color and body. The wine was fermented on the skins and hand-pumped five times a day to gently maximize color extraction. After fermentation, the wine is aged for eight months in French and American oak barrels, where it also completes malolactic fermentation. The wine has a deep, dark garnet color. The aroma reveals a beautiful bouquet of ripe red berries, mulberries, and blackberries. The tannin structure is well balanced with the fruit and oak. Subtle notes of vanilla are also present, well integrated with hints of chocolate and dark cherries. A delicious wine for roast meats or duck.Product details
