Spier Estate, what a beautiful place in South Africa. We're proud of the old cellars, which date back to 1767, making them one of the oldest wine cellars in South Africa. In 1692, German settler Arnout Janz purchased a plot of land on an old riverbed. He saw great potential in South African viticulture and this fertile soil. It was during this time that the estate was built as we know it today, Spier Estate. A magnificent estate with a rich history that is reflected in many aspects. For example, there are 21 buildings, all built at the end of the 17th century, each with its own distinct facade. The 21 Gables series is based on this. There's also a beautiful new winery with the most advanced winemaking techniques. This renovation and expansion of the winery allows Spier to meet the high demand for Spier wines even better.

The Spier Discover Pinotage Shiraz is the red wine from the Discover series. This series was specially developed for the flexible wine drinker. As the name suggests, this red wine is made from Pinotage and Shiraz, two grapes that feel "like a fish in water" in South Africa. It's therefore not surprising that these two grapes are frequently found in South African red wines. Both grape varieties are planted on an old riverbed. The soil is ideal for growing grapes, as it is very fertile and rich in pebbles. These pebbles ensure good water permeability. The grapes are harvested entirely by hand to ensure only the finest fruit is used for this wine. After the vinification process, this red wine is aged for 5 to 6 months in stainless steel vats before being bottled.

What does the Spier Discover Collection Pinotage Shiraz taste like?

This bottling brings us to the moment we get to taste this Spier Discover Pinotage Shiraz. This red wine is deep dark red with a purple rim. The aroma reveals rich blackberry and currant aromas, slightly toasted and lightly spicy. The taste is perfectly balanced, incredibly good! Beautiful nuances of black fruit interspersed with cinnamon and light spices. A hint of ripe cherries remains on the palate. The finish is full, intense, and sultry. A red wine with a perfect price-quality ratio!
