Vintage Report

The harvest benefited from an ideal sun exposure and the altitude of the vineyards on the Paardeberg, resulting in grapes of excellent quality. By harvesting early in the morning, the freshness in the grapes was optimally preserved for this blend.

Busy Bee wines are crafted by none other than winemaker Stephan Basson. He rose to fame at the Babylon's Peak winery in South Africa. They craft exquisite wines with the utmost respect for nature. The winery is situated on the slopes of the Paardeberg Mountains between Malmesbury and Paarl. Today, the fourth generation is at the helm of the family winery. Stephan and his father continue the family tradition, and this is clearly reflected in the fantastic quality of their wines.

Lots of granite in the subsoil

The name Babylon's Peak derives from the exceptionally high concentration of granite in the vineyards' soils. Locals have nicknamed the winery "Babylonstoren" (Babylon's Tower) because the vineyards and winery are situated at an impressive 700 meters above sea level. This makes the winery one of the highest vineyards in the Swartland region. But what would the vineyards do without the bee, an insect? It plays a crucial role in pollinating the vineyards, and the winemaker wants to honor this bee with his Busy Bee wines. The vines are located in the Western Cape wine region, specifically Paardeberg. The perfect sun exposure and the vineyard's altitude produce superb grapes, harvested early in the morning. Busy Bee does this to preserve as much freshness as possible in the grapes, and they succeed, as the grapes are wonderfully crisp. Winemaker Stephan Basson is a master at blending beautiful wines, and this wine is a dedication to the bees, which are essential for a good harvest.

Nice and fresh and full, this white wine Busy Bee

What a discovery this South African wine from Busy Bee, a White Blend made with Chenin Blanc and Rousanne grapes. On the nose, this Busy Bee White Blend has notes of apple, lime, and pear. A touch of white pepper and green bell pepper. The palate is wonderfully fresh and rounded, pampering the palate with fruity notes of green apple, lime, and a touch of gooseberry. These later give way to dried pears and a few apricots.
