The 2023 vintage for South Africa has been rated with an excellent score of 90 points. The wines from this year are currently still youthful and tannic, which means they will develop relatively slowly.

Pinotage, the pride of South Africa, has been transformed into a fantastic winery. Delheim Winery is located in the heart of Stellenbosch, a breathtaking wine region just a 45-minute drive from Cape Town city center. Delheim has been established here since the late 1930s, but established itself as a renowned winemaker in the early 1960s, when its wines were recognized by international wine connoisseurs. Delheim Pinotage is a wine that has made the winery famous. Its accessible character, flawless execution, and attractive price have made it one of the finest red wines from Stellenbosch.

Pinotage, the pride of South Africa

This grape exudes South Africa. A unique grape variety that has conquered the world. Pinotage was born in 1925 as a cross between the renowned Pinot Noir and Cinsault, a grape variety native to the Côte du Rhone. This grape proved to thrive in South African vineyards and was also a favorite among wine drinkers. From the early 1960s, the Delheim winery achieved great success with its Pinotage. Today, Pinotage is one of Delheim's most important grapes.

Why buy Delheim Pinotage?

The Pinotage grapes grow in the beautiful vineyards of Delheim, which are quite sheltered by the Simonsberg Mountains. After harvest, the grapes are fermented. This begins at a low temperature but reaches temperatures of up to 28 degrees Celsius. This process preserves the flavors of the Delheim Pinotage. Finally, this red wine is aged for 15 months in oak barrels, 22% of which are new. This gives Delheim Pinotage a wealth of expressive aromas that are immediately evident in the nose. It's a surprise all around; you smell so many aromas! Cloves, plums, blackcurrants, blackberries, Asian spices, wood, mocha, vanilla. You can't stop smelling Delheim Pinotage. The palate is surprisingly full, thanks in part to the sublime oak aging. Plenty of fruit but also complexity on the palate. It's precisely the spice in this red wine that makes for a fantastic flavor. In our opinion, a number one from Stellenbosch!
