About Kleine Zalze
Kleine Zalze, located near Stellenbosch, has been producing wine on the estate since 1695. Its modern phase began in 1996, when the Basson family purchased the estate and invested specifically in its vineyards and cellar, with a clear focus on terroir-driven plots and an accessible, consistent style.
How is the wine made?
Chenin Blanc originates primarily from bush vines in Stellenbosch, Paarl, and Swartland. The grapes were harvested per plot at optimal ripeness, allowed twelve to sixteen hours of skin contact, after which only the free-flowing juice was fermented in stainless steel at a low temperature. After fermentation, the wine remained on the fine lees for two months for added texture, after which the final cuvée was assembled.
Food pairing
You'll taste a combination of tropical and stone fruit with a fresh citrus drive and a soft texture thanks to its short lees, making it a versatile wine for dining. Think sushi, ceviche, or grilled shrimp, goat cheese with a fresh salad, chicken with lemon and herbs, or mild Thai dishes that require a lively, yet unoaked, white wine. What pairs well with Kleine Zalze Chenin Blanc? Dishes with fresh acidity or saltiness best showcase the fruit and texture.
