The vineyards of L'Avenir

L'Avenir has traditionally specialized in two grape varieties. Pinotage is planted on a whopping 10 hectares, with vines dating back to 1985 still present! The most beautiful part of this vineyard, where the oldest, finest vines are located, has been designated "Block 2." The process of creating L'Avenir Single Block Pinotage is complex and intricate. It all begins with the harvest, which is done manually. This allows for stricter selection; only the very best is good enough for this wine. After vinification in stainless steel, the wine is then aged for a whopping 18 (!) months in new French oak. The oak imparts a tremendous amount of flavor to this Pinotage. You smell it immediately: plums, ripe black cherries, tobacco, and minerals. The spicy character tingles your nose.
