Le Macchiole Bolgheri Rosso is Le Macchiole's youngest and newest wine, launched in 2004. A well-developed project from the start, the Merlot, Syrah, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Cabernet Franc grapes used to produce this wine come from very specific, young vineyards. It's a true Bordeaux blend ( we'll explain what that is in more detail here ), typical of the Bolgheri region, yet with its own original and distinctive characteristics.
The Italian estate Le Macchiole
Le Macchiole is a small 24-hectare estate located in Tuscany, Italy. It was founded in 1983 by Eugenio Campolmi and Cinzia Merli. Eugenio's father instilled a passion for wine at an early age. The name Le Macchiole means "The place where it all began." This estate is primarily known for its varietal wines, particularly those made from Cabernet Franc ( Paleo Rosso ), Merlot ( Messorio ), and Syrah (Scrio) grapes. The wines from this region are particularly known for their deep-colored, supple, yet pleasant reds. The climate also strongly influences the character of Italian wines. Today, Cinzia Merli runs the winery together with her sons. This family continues to innovate, surprising the entire wine world. They never lose sight of their original vision. The entire process, from grape to wine, is closely monitored. The grapes are harvested entirely by hand between late August and mid-September. A rigorous selection process follows. Fermentation and maceration then take place in stainless steel tanks for approximately fifteen days. Finally, the wine is aged for ten months in oak barrels.
The soft, stimulating tannins of Bolgheri
The aroma reveals a beautiful palette of black fruit, light spices, a touch of dark chocolate, licorice, and a hint of leather. The palate is smooth with ripe, vibrant tannins, abundant black fruit, and a lovely spiciness that perfectly balances everything.
