This beautiful Barolo has been aged for an impressive 36 months in oak barrels, and the difference is immediately apparent. The Vajra family describes this Albe Barolo as "Barolo as Barolo was meant to be." It comes from their Fossati, Coste di Vergne, and La Volta vineyards. It boasts character, refined balance, beautiful aromas, and ripe tannins. The vineyards are sustainably managed.
The family business Vajra
GD Vajra was founded in 1972 by Aldo Vajra. The initials refer to his grandfather, from whom he inherited the vineyards. He and his wife built the company with the goal of producing wines under their own label. These wines are made exclusively from their own grapes. Over the years, daughter Francesca and sons Giuseppe and Isidoro also joined the company.
They craft their Barolos traditionally: an emphasis on elegance with a refined bouquet and a balanced flavor. They achieve this by using stainless steel vats for vinification and large Slovenian oak barrels for aging. The Albe Barolo is a blend of Nebbiolo grapes from three vineyards: Fossati, Coste di Vegrne, and La Volta. Albe, in Italian, refers to the sunrise over the three vineyards. The vineyards are cultivated sustainably. Harvesting is done manually in the second half of October. The grapes are carefully selected in the vineyard. Vinification takes thirty to forty days, and aging in Slovenian oak barrels lasts approximately three years.
The harmonious Albe Barolo
The aroma offers notes of red fruit, plums, wood, flowers, and much more. We can't stop talking about the taste either; a whole lot of wine! Beautifully harmonious, with hints of licorice, bay leaf, anise, licorice, plum, cocoa, and black fruit! A great finish that perfectly suits this wine! This wine pairs perfectly with roasted and grilled red meat, truffle dishes, and aged cheeses.
