Fattoria Le Pupille Morellino di Scansano

This red Morellino di Scansano is made primarily from Sangiovese grapes, supplemented with Alicante and Malvasia Nera. This combination makes this red wine from the Fattoria Le Pupille winery a unique creation. Elisabetta Geppetti began her adventure in 1982, and that year her passion for wine took shape at Fattoria Le Pupille. With this, she put the small Maremma region on the map. She produces wines of a very high standard.

The flagship of the Fattoria Le Pupille winery

The Morellino is the flagship wine of Fattoria Le Pupille. The first vintage was 1985, and since then, this terroir wine from Maremma has been part of the winery's history. The grapes for the Morellino di Scansano—85 percent Sangiovese, 10 percent Alicante, and 5 percent Ciliegiolo—are grown in various vineyards of the winery, located between 50 and 250 meters above sea level. The soils vary from clay, iron-rich loam, to textured sandstone slabs. The grape harvest takes place between September and October, depending on the degree of ripeness. After hand-harvesting, the grapes macerate with the skins for fifteen days, and fermentation takes place at a controlled temperature in stainless steel tanks. The Morellino is then aged for eight months, mostly in stainless steel, with a small portion in barriques.

The result is a delicious red wine called Morellino di Scansano. This wine shines intensely red with ruby ​​reflections in the glass. The bouquet of this red wine from Maremma surprises us with aromas of ripe sour cherries replaced by the scent of small berries. On the palate, this Morellino presents itself with an elegant and slender body, very fresh and persistent, supported by silky and firm tannins. It has a long, smooth finish. This beautiful, elegant red wine from southern Tuscany pairs perfectly with pasta and rice with flavorful sauces and with meat dishes typical of the Maremma.
