Nederburg Two Centuries Cabernet Sauvignon | Stellenbosch & Paarl, South Africa

The Nederburg Two Centuries Cabernet Sauvignon is a rare, iconic wine from the Private Bin Collection, Nederburg's flagship wine. This exclusive cuvée is produced exclusively in outstanding vintages, handcrafted from exceptional grapes from South Africa's finest coastal vineyards. The wine honors Nederburg's 200-year heritage with a powerful, elegant Cabernet that not only impresses but is also built for longevity.

Vineyards and region

The grapes are sourced from two prime locations: the cool south- and east-facing slopes of Stellenbosch and the low-yielding Simonsberg Mountains in Paarl. In Stellenbosch, the constant Atlantic breeze ensures slow, concentrated ripening. The vineyards on Paarl's granite-rich soils yield small, loose bunches of exceptional aromatic intensity. This combination of terroirs gives the wine both power and refinement.

Vinification and maturation

Each vineyard is harvested and vinified separately. The grapes undergo cold maceration and fermentation in open vats with daily pigeage. After fermentation, complete malolactic fermentation takes place in barrel, followed by a full 28 months of aging in new French oak barriques. Only the very best barrels are selected for the final blend. The result is a wine with layered depth, texture, and exceptional aging potential.

Grape composition

100% Cabernet Sauvignon.

Tasting notes and serving suggestions

The wine opens with aromas of dark berries, violets, and fruitcake, followed by notes of tea, graphite, and pencil shavings. On the palate, it is rich and concentrated, with satiny tannins, fresh acidity, and impressive length. This Cabernet Sauvignon is both muscular and refined, with a cohesion that is rare. Serve at 16 to 18 degrees Celsius with a classic Beef Wellington, a grilled côte de boeuf, or a creamy mushroom pasta.
