What a feast and a pleasure to drink, this Survivor Pinotage! The grapes come from the warm wine region near Constantia. Here, the afternoons are very warm, but the nights are cool. Ideal for the Pinotage grape, because the fresh breeze imparts a rich terroir to this wine. But even more importantly, Overhex Wines is the big name behind Survivor wines. The winery has a long history and a wealth of experience in producing top-quality Swartland wines. They craft wines with great respect for nature and history—which is why the winery features an indigenous Nguni cow, the traditional cattle of the Zulu people, on the label. Years ago, these were a number of cows that jumped off the truck while being transported past the vineyards. The cows were never captured, and they produced numerous offspring that still proudly dominate the landscape today.
Completely hand-harvested for this Pinotage
The Pinotage grapes are grown on a 20-year-old vineyard located in Constantia, owned by DB Rust in the Swartland region. The climate here is perfect, with abundant sunshine and cool sea breezes. This creates an optimal environment for Pinotage grapes. Yields are modest, at just 7 tons per hectare. However, the harvest is of unparalleled beauty. The harvest is entirely hand-picked and strictly controlled. Only the finest bunches are harvested, which contributes to the quality of this Survivor Pinotage. The best Pinotage wine from Survivor
The intense black juice is then aged in oak barrels for eighteen months. Almost exclusively French oak is used, with a tiny amount of American oak. This gives the Pinotage considerable power, and twenty percent new and unused oak further enhances this Survivor Pinotage. And yes, you can taste it in this full-bodied, powerful wine. The aroma reveals hints of black fruit, plums, cinnamon, pepper, and a hint of cherry. The palate is full of oak nuances, light spices, and a generous helping of black fruit. A Pinotage you'll never forget.Product details
