Wagram

Buy Wagram wines

Wagram is a large Austrian wine district with over two thousand hectares of vineyards. The region is particularly known for its organically processed wines. A growing number of winegrowers are embracing this approach. The region is divided into two parts: a small strip south of the Danube, and a much larger portion of vineyards north of the river. If you enjoy white wine, Wagram is the place to be.

Wine knowledge in Wagram

The impressive Klosterneuburg building is a key part of Wagram's wine history. In 1860, it housed the world's first wine-growing college. And that legacy continues to bear fruit today. Many winemakers have learned all the tricks of the trade here and received training at the highest international level. Besides being a learning environment, Klosterneuburg is also one of the country's largest wine producers.

The climate in Wagram

Cold winters and warm summers alternate in Wagram, and the Alps also influence the vineyards. Thanks to these conditions, the grapes ripen fully and develop beautiful aromas. The Danube River also plays an important role, compensating for the temperature with a fresh breeze through the vineyards. This results in fruity, spicy, and ripe wines. A thick layer of loess has formed in the soil over time, which has a positive effect on the wines. The Grüner Veltliner grapes become somewhat more vibrant and spicy, and the Roter Veltliner and Riesling also benefit from it. In addition to white grape varieties, red grape varieties are also grown in Wagram. Zweigelt and Pinot Noir are primarily used for the red wines.

The pride of Austria

The Grüner Veltliner is by far the most widely grown in the Wagram wine region. And it's certainly on par with the white wines of Burgundy. It's the pride of Austria, and for good reason. This grape plays a key role in many of the wines from Diwald Winery. Diwald is a true specialist in Riesling and Gruner Veltliner, which are considered phenomenal thanks to their gentle pressing. The Gösing Grüner Veltliner is a fantastic wine from the high-altitude vineyards. This white wine is both fresh and fruity, with lively acidity. But let's not forget the red grape varieties either. Zweigelt thrives in Austria's diverse climate. Try the Zweigelt Klassik from Leth Blauer. A robust, distinctive glass of red wine that will instantly make you fall in love with Austria.
