Vintage Report
2021 was an extraordinary vintage for Piedmont, rated 96 points by Robert Parker. The conditions were ideal, resulting in balanced and age-worthy wines.
Our Review
Delicious, warm, soft, ripe fruit. Old leather. Beautiful soft tannins, from a fantastic vintage. It's also a vintage that doesn't necessarily need to age, but is certainly incredibly enjoyable when young. This, by the way, applies to many 2021 Barolos.
In our opinion, Borgogno Barolo is the pinnacle of Barolo! This magnificent red wine is a true celebration with a lavish flourish! This wine is made entirely from the Nebbiolo grape. The grapes for this red wine are all hand-selected and harvested. To further develop its character, Borgogno Barolo is aged in oak barrels for 48 months, followed by a further few months of maturation in the bottle. All Borgogno wines carry the Slow Wine certification. This refers to agricultural and livestock farming methods that respect the rhythms of nature and the time allowed for aging, allowing for deeper and more complex aromas and flavors in our food and drinks. It's all about honest, pure, and clean wines.
A reflection of every terroir in the Barolo area
The Barolo Classic Borgogno is made from a blend of grapes from five of the Barolo region's most prestigious vineyards: Cannubi, Cannubi San Lorenzo, Fossati, Liste, and San Pietro delle Viole. This is not just a Barolo; it is much more. It fully reflects the elegance and power of a true Barolo from the village of Barolo. After being harvested by hand, spontaneous fermentation takes place using indigenous yeasts in concrete tanks. This is followed by maceration for 30 days. The wine is then aged for four years in Slavonian oak barrels, with further refinement in the bottle for six months. This classic, traditional method has been used by the long-standing Barolo family to produce a Barolo that embraces each of the distinctive characters of the Barolo region's diverse vineyards and terroirs.Borgogno Barolo pure and honest
Borgogno Barolo is also an honest and pure wine. Upon pouring, the beautiful garnet-red color immediately catches the eye. Then, the delightful aromas of vanilla, nutmeg, bay leaf, and dried fruit are released. What a delightful sensory experience! The flavor is phenomenal! Rich and smooth with lovely nuances of licorice, black fruit, and even a hint of rose. Thanks to the long aging, the tannins are perfectly balanced and therefore very pleasant. The finish is impressive. What suppleness!Product details
