Veneto

Buy Wines from Veneto

This province in northern Italy is, after Tuscany, the most visited Italian region among Dutch tourists. And that's not surprising. With cultural cities like Venice, Verona, and Padua within its borders, they already have a major advantage. Lake Garda, which forms Veneto's western border, is also a tourist attraction. But Veneto has so much more to offer. Just look at the wine. No region in Italy is more diverse than Veneto; a region where every wine lover can find their favorite.

The Veneto wines from Italy

For years, the Veneto region has been known as the province with the largest wine production. With over 70,000 hectares of vineyards, it's a significant player, making it the 7th-largest region worldwide. The area is roughly situated between Venice and Lake Garda, a popular destination for many tourists. Thanks to the exceptionally mild climate, many grape varieties thrive. Local heroes like Glera, Corvina, and Pinot Grigio, as well as international varieties like Chardonnay and Cabernet Sauvignon. Although Veneto lacks the allure and rich history of Piedmont, for example, it has already built an impressive reputation, thanks in part to leading wines like Prosecco, Valpolicella Ripasso, and, of course, the renowned Amarone.

Famous areas in Veneto

Veneto boasts many interesting wine regions. It begins on the eastern shore of Lake Garda. Here, we find one of Veneto's finest wineries, the Zenato winery. Based in Peschiera del Garda, it operates throughout the Veneto region. Just north of here, you'll find Bardolino. This village is best known for its Bardolino Classico wines, produced by Bolla Winery, among others.

Heading slightly east, towards the cultural city of Verona, we enter Veneto's most famous region. Welcome to Valpolicella. Perhaps Italy's most famous red wine. Who doesn't adore a delicious Valpolicella Ripasso? Wineries like Farina and Sopra Sasso have made it their home. However, another icon hails from the Valpolicella region: the king of Veneto wines: Amarone.

The Amarone from Veneto

The absolute top wine from Veneto: Amarone. This wine is made by allowing the bunches to dry for a long time after harvest. This creates a currant-like structure. While there's little juice left, what remains is incredibly rich in flavor. It's a long and expensive project, and bottles from a unique vineyard are particularly pricey. Well-known producers include Bertani, Tommasi, and Tedeschi. The latter boasts a very impressive Amarone, Tedeschi Monte Olmi Amarone, sourced from Monte Olmi.

The famous wineries from Veneto

Veneto is a major player in the Italian wine industry. As a result, the winery boasts a wide range of well-known names. You'll find reputable names on Lake Garda, in the Valpolicella region, and around cities like Verone and Padua. Bertani and Salvaterra, both renowned for their Valpolicella wines, are just a few examples. Pieropan, a star in Soave Classico wines, is another example. Farina and Veneto are both immense and vast, mastering every facet of Veneto wine.

What is the most beautiful Veneto wine from Italy?

Veneto is incredibly talented when it comes to still wines. Red, white, and rosé are all found in this region of Italy. However, Veneto excels in another area: sparkling wines. The most famous of these is undoubtedly Prosecco. Prosecco is synonymous with refinement and elegance. Many wineries have now specialized in this Italian sparkling wine, such as Bottega, Follador, and Bellusi.
