Central Valley Chile

Central Valley Chile wines

A major wine-growing region in Chile is the Central Valley. It boasts numerous wineries that are part of a long winemaking tradition. The Central Valley is divided into several regions: Maipo, Rapel, Curico, and Maile. The most famous of these is by far Maipo. The most popular grapes in the Central Valley are Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot for red wines, while Chardonnay and Sauvignon Blanc play a significant role in white wines.

French influences in Central Valley Chile

Thanks to these grape varieties, the French influence is immediately noticeable. It was the Spanish who brought French vines here to make wine under the Chilean sun. While initially there was considerable sensing of how to deal with the climate, viticulture began to expand around the 19th century. And with success. Chilean wineries began investing more in new developments and techniques. And thanks to the exceptional climate, ample moisture from the Andes and the necessary cooling from the sea, grapes can ripen perfectly here.

The different regions of Central Valley

The rolling hills of the Central Valley flow seamlessly from one region to the next. Maipo Valley forms the heart of the valley, right in the center. The region is dominated by Cabernet Sauvignon, of which the Ventisquero winery is a prime example. Aromas of red and black fruit envelop you, and the balanced flavor crowns this wine. From this region, we move on to the Rapel Valley, a large area primarily planted with red grapes. The Santiago 1541 Syrah Cabernet Malbec blend is full-bodied and powerful, a beautiful reflection of this region. A vigorous swirl of the glass reveals beautiful aromas of red and black fruit, such as berries and cherries, which, at the end, add a subtle spiciness. The palate is thick and full-bodied with lovely nuances of black fruit, with cherries swirling harmoniously across the tongue, accompanied by hints of pepper and licorice.

Accessible Chilean wines

Curico Valley, located further south, boasts a very warm climate and more fertile soils. Yields are high, and both high-quality white and red wines are produced. Take, for example, the Chronos Chardonnay Espiritu de Chile, a sophisticated white wine that tantalizes the palate. Finally, the Maule Valley boasts a slightly crispy wine. The wines from this region offer an attractive price-quality ratio, making it an easy way to discover Chilean wines.
