A winery unlike any other. Originally a small cooperative in Alto Adige, it has since become a major player in many Italian wine regions. However, Mezzacorona remains true to its roots and remains the market leader in Trentino, thanks in part to its successful Castel Firmian wines.
The northern Italian wines of Mezzacorona
Mezzacorona is one of Italy's largest wineries. It was founded in 1904 in the northern province of Trentino. At its inception, it was one of the first cooperatives in the Italian wine world. Although Mezzacorona still considers Trentino its home, the winery also encompasses many other wine regions, extending as far as Puglia and the beautiful Sicily. However, our vintners especially enjoy the Trentino wines, which find their way to consumers under the Castel Firmian label.
The vineyards of Mezzacorona
Although Mezzacorona, after over a century of craftsmanship, has wineries throughout Italy, it remains inextricably linked to Trentino in northern Italy. Here, it has been the largest wine producer since its founding. Mezzacorona's vineyards in Trentino now encompass no fewer than 2,400 hectares. Here, in the Adige Valley (also known as Alto Adige), it has planted, in addition to conventional grapes like Sauvignon Blanc and Pinot Grigio, lesser-known varieties such as Marzemino, Teroldego, and the pride of Trentino: the Lagrein grape.
Castel Firmian Pinot Grigio
The winery's success stems from its cultivation of the Pinot Grigio grape. Although this grape is found throughout Italy, Castel Firmian's style is distinctly different. Northern Pinot Grigio wines appear more intense and exciting. The taste feels purer. This is precisely why bottles of Castel Firmian Pinot Grigio have been finding their way to consumers for years.
The Mezzacorona wines from Trentino
Little by little, we're impressed by the beauty that Mezzacorona's wines have to offer. There's no wine that stands out; they simply offer excellent value for money. Consider Castel Firmian Lagrein Rosato, a rosé where freshness and fruitiness go hand in hand. Our oenologists are also impressed by Castel Firmian Marzemino. Here, a relatively unknown grape, Marzemino, takes center stage. However, this unfamiliarity creates a spectacular bouquet of violets, almonds, and grass.
